In 2021, the J. D. Williams Library at the University of Mississippi celebrated its 70th year. This exhibit looks back on what looks different, and what looks really different.

Meet Library Ann, a vintage Edison Doll that lives in the Department of Special Collections & Archives. Edison dolls contain removable phonographs that play a single nursery rhyme.  These dolls went on sale in 1890 and were considered one of Thomas Edison's epic failures. The phonographs were prone to breakage and poor sound quality. Because so many were returned, the dolls were removed from store shelves just weeks after they were released.  Over 100 years old, Library Ann's phonograph is still operational and plays _____. A. In August 2001, J. D. Williams Library became "the library of the _____ profession" when it acquired the AICPA collection. William Faulkner was quoted as saying "I decline to accept the end of man... I believe that man will not only endure: he will prevail."  This quote was originally installed on the outside of the library's West entrance. It is now located on the inside of the building, on the 2nd floor under the skylight.
