To pay off some of Trumpet’s debts, Lillian McMurry sold Sonny Boy Williamson’s contract to R.E. “Buster” Williams of Plastic Products Inc, who in turn sold the contract to Chicago’s Chess Records, the leading post-war blues label. There he reunited with his earlier King Biscuit partner Robert Jr. Lockwood, but also backed by Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Buddy Guy, Otis Spann, and others. His recordings on Chess and their subsidiary Checker label really solidified Williamson as one of the top blues performers of the 1950s and 1960s with songs such as “Fattening Frogs for Snakes,” “Don’t Start Me Talkin’,” “Help Me,” and “One Way Out.”
