Allan Boyce Adams Collection

Allan Boyce Adams was a native of Coahoma County, Miss. A graduate of Mississippi College in Clinton, Adams served during World War I in the famed 42nd Rainbow Division. He was a first lieutenant under the leadership of General Douglas MacArthur.

The collection is primarily letters from Adams to his mother, Evie Lowrey Adams, and other family members during his service in France in World War I. The letters provide detailed and valuable insight into the everyday life of American soldiers in Europe.

The majority of the correspondence contains accounts of Adams's service in France and Germany. He discusses soldier morale, military and educational training, weather conditions, hospital and medical care, personal setbacks and achievements, and the gratefulness extended to the soldiers by the local citizens.
