Why was S___ sold at auction? Does Masters and [Schinieyderyr] occupy their new house on the lake? A Photographer has been here and taken a view of the Faculty, Students, and buildings. This letter has not got many questions, has it? Oxford Miss University Miss April 16, 1871 My dear Ma, Thursdays mail favored me with your ever welcome weekly of the 9 inst contributing as usual to the happiness and glee generally attendant upon the student towards the latter part of the week, especially that joy which is present when he knows he has surmounted the numberless barriers of Euclid which present themselves during the course of the week in that book so well known to the Freshmen; as Davies, Legendic, I was exceedingly glad to have the pleasure of perusing GrandMas kind and well written missive. I had no idea she could write such a letter at this stage of her life. I must certainly find time to write to her. [Padelford] and I have taken an idea that we would like to start some vines to climbing about your aerial windows: one to ward off the radiant because of the Sun as he triumphantly soars aloft to the zenith of the heavens; and the other to bid defiance to his warm farewell as he gradually sinks to dream among the western hills where he sleeps in sweet repose until the Rosy fingered Aurora reminds him that his bright countenance is wanted to complete the day. Have you some [Thumbergia] Seed? if so, send me a little if convenient. What a grand and sublime scene is pictured to those who love to feed their admiring orbs upon Natures beauties and artistic skill, from my window such as would almost rival, I fancy, the picturesque table [lands] and [vales] of Italy itself; especially so, when the soft and gentle twilight of a springs eve enrobes the earth in its mighty apparel and regal forests breath forth their sweet Zephyrs, on which are born the plaintive notes of the [Whipoorwill] or the lowing of a herd of weary cattle in some grassy [morelaud], how lovely and majestic are the works wrought by the divine architect sometimes presented to us and how forcibly must the magnitude of his power and mysterious greatness be impressed upon our very often incredulous minds. Will to change the subject slightly how is Miss. Lizzie B.______? I sent her an invitation to our [illegible word] address as short time since which I faintly hoped might causeth her to taketh the pen in hand and entrust to writing some of her many brilliant thoughts which she never ceases to display when opportunity offers. The paper continues to come regular, as usual. I always enjoy the local matter, and that is about all it is valuable for. [Lumm] [illegible word] they are all well at Aunt Marys; heard frequently from there. What has become of the Thompsons? Are they living on their place? Always remember me kindly to them. Does Mrs. Blackmans family anticipate visiting Providence next summer? As I have five or six propositions, as well as definitions to get in the VIII Book of Geometry I will bid adieu with much love to all Your devoted son- Fred Frank Morehead was in town a short time since but I did not see him. I saw his name registered at the Hotel. What is Vail doing? And where is Bob Bagly? How many new houses are going up?
