Claude F. Clayton served as a judge in the U.S. District Court of Northern Mississippi (1958-1967) and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (1967-1969). He also served over thirty years in the Mississippi National Guard where he retired as major general and commander of the 31st Infantry Division.
