Description
Hubert writes from New York City to his mother in Jackson, Mississippi, regarding personal and professional matters. He states that Mary Lou Aswell had a party for Eudora Welty. Lehman Engel took Hubert and Eudora to dinner. Hubert mentions dinner with Diana Trilling. Francis Robinson gave him a ticket to see the opera Die Fledermaus, and he had lunch with his Yaddo artists' retreat friends, Kit and Ilse Barker and Bob Evitt. He went to a poetry reading with Edith and Sir Osbert Sitwell, E. E. Cummings, W. H. Auden, W. C. [William Carlos] Williams, Archibald MacLeish, and Marianne Moore and spent time with Theodore "Ted" Roethke afterward.
