Description

Hubert writes from New York City to his mother in Jackson, Mississippi, regarding personal and professional matters. Hubert covers the events of the opening of Eudora's play "The Ponder Heart." In attendance for the festivities were Emmett and Mary Vaughey, Mary Lou Ashwell, Lehman Engel, Diarmuid Russell, William Maxwell, Ben Wasson, Eileen McGrath, David and Peggy Rockerfeller, David Wayne, Sarah Marshall, Harry Crumpson, Johanna Roos, Patricia Neal, and Roald Dahl. Hubert also met with Professor Lind, from Kansas, regarding Hubert's Latin translations and the possiblity of lecturing in Kansas. He also went to the opera with Leonard Lyons. Hubert continues his search for permanent housing. Dave McDowell from Random House called about a possible job and Ponder Heart might be bought for movie rights. Envelope included.
