Transcriptions of handwritten or typed correspondence
eGrove is the institutional repository of the University of Mississippi. It collects the “research and intellectual output” of UM students and faculty, but it is also the platform for the UM Libraries’ digital collections.
Items that are not "born digital" -- that is, created on a computer using word processing software -- must be "digitized", usually by a scanner. But unless OCR (optimal character recognition) is available, that scan is basically a photocopy of a piece of paper.
When digitizing printed books or journals that have been typeset, we can use software designed to recognize the words on the page so that that they can be searched by a machine. However, handwritten items or even items created with an "old school" typewriter can be hard for the software to read. For those items, the results are better if they can be transcribed by an actual person. That's where YOU come in.
We are looking to transcribe the items listed below. You will need to read the PDF scan of the document, and create a verbatim copy using Microsoft Word or equivalent. You will then submit your transcription using the link in the left sidebar.
