Abstract
Join Dr. Jim Varner, an experienced bird watcher, as he answers the question, “Why birds?” He explains that, among other attractions to bird watching, the wonder of flight has long eluded earth-bound humans. With fun scientific facts about the miraculous behavior of birds as well as sound advice for beginners, Jim narrates an entertaining introduction to this popular hobby and even takes us with him on an outing to Wall Doxey State Park near Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Christian Owen – With a master’s in journalism, I formerly served as editor for two print magazines (Midsouth/Nashville Home & Garden) and for StyleBlueprint, a digital magazine based in Nashville. In 2018, I created a publishing label to produce a book about flower farms across the U.S. and abroad, Florists to the Field (Southerly Media, 2018), which was named one of the best books of 2018 by Flower magazine. I have three children, my husband is a career farmer, and we live in Tunica, Mississippi. In August 2021, I will complete a master’s in Southern Studies. I am also pursuing a doctoral degree in Extension Education.
