Abstract
I am motivated to illustrate the presence, intimacy, and strength of chocolate cities. I use photography to reveal how people and their love and determination play an integral role in a community’s resilience. My photographs highlight Holly Springs’ delightful citizens and their occupations and the traditional and modern localities within the city. This exploration helps me engage with the community in ways most have neglected. My goal is to highlight the significance of a strong community and illustrate how Holly Springs is truly a place of love, kindness, and rich history.
A native of Moss Point, MS, Janeth Jackson is pursuing an M.A. in Southern Studies. Jackson recently earned her B.A. from Tougaloo College in English. During her undergraduate career, Janeth was a Tom Joyner, UNCF, and Presidential Scholar. While attending Tougaloo, Janeth served as the Vice President of the Alpha Delta Alpha Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta and Chosen Generation (local church outreach program). Additionally, Janeth participated in Howard University’s Pre-PhD Summer Enrichment program, where she reported on the portrayal of Black women in mass media. Her current research focuses on Black communities and Southern literature.
