Abstract

Home is complicated. To some people it means safety, comfort, love – to others it means the opposite. As someone who has called a number of different places home, I wanted to explore what this concept means to different people, including myself. I hope it can give us a better understanding of what many homes can mean.

Astrid Knox-McConnell is a first-year MA Southern Studies student originally from Bradford, England. They achieved their BA in History and Politics of the Americas from University College London in 2024. They are interested in exploring space and place, and how this impacts people’s perceptions of home.
