Abstract
Dr. Jeffery Jackson, Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and Dr. Charles Ross, Director of African American Studies and Professor of History, join Dr. Meagen Rosenthal to briefly discuss the history of the Mississippi and the legacy of the University in communities around the state. How has this legacy contributed to its reputation in communities, in particular communities of color? What should faculty and staff who want to work with communities do to mitigate the, sometimes negative, perceptions of the University? How can faculty take pride in the work they do while being respectful of communities’ experiences with the University?
