Abstract
After a violent shipwreck, Savannah washes up on the shores of Outis with no memory of her past. She is found by James, who she thinks is a suave but ill-tempered merchant. Outis turns out to be a more dangerous place than Savannah had thought. Through the aftermath of a traumatic encounter with another islander, she learns that James is a notorious pirate, and she is stuck on an island populated by his dangerous crew. James gives Savannah an ultimatum, and with no choice but to join his crew, she becomes the ship surgeon on the Cyllenia. During their sea-faring adventures, James and Savannah forge a romantic bond. While glimpses of Savannah’s memories return, James is haunted by his own bloody past, which forces them to return to Outis. There, they find a chest from Savannah’s shipwreck, and she asks James to take her home. Upon her return, it is revealed to her that she is the Queen of a small island nation in the Mediterranean.
Though Savannah has returned home, things are not as she left them. Her father’s ward and her childhood friend, Giesly, plots to take the kingdom he believes is rightfully his and start another bloody war through whatever means necessary. Lacking the funds for his war, Giesly turns to Harend’s rich history as a Greek city-state and plans to raid an ancient treasury. James and Savannah race to retrieve the treasure before Giesly, but if they wish to defeat him, they both must overcome their bloody pasts and heal each other from wounds deeper than any blade could cut.
