Abstract
This thesis report took a project-based approach, making a change on campus through Students for Sustainable Fashion (SFSF), a club I founded here at the University of Mississippi. My thesis intends to document the establishment process and record the growth of SFSF throughout its last three semesters. SFSF emerged due to a significant challenge identified through casual class conversations, observational thinking, and campus engagement. However, university students are provided with abundant information about fast fashion's detrimental effects, and many feel unable to act due to social pressures, financial constraints, and the influence of fast-paced consumer culture. While students often desire to make a difference and consume ethically, many lack the knowledge or skill sets to do so effectively. SFSF laid a foundation on this gap and set out with two main objectives: 1) to create a community where students could learn about and take action on sustainability in fashion and 2) to provide resources and initiatives that make sustainable practices accessible, enjoyable, and engaging. The organization's mission focuses on promoting awareness and inspiring movement through collaborations with existing organizations on campus and within the Oxford community, such as hosting and collaborating in campus-wide events. By aligning its efforts with the values and interests of college students, SFSF created a platform that empowers members to explore ethical identities and integrate sustainability into their daily lives. As founder and President, I developed an organizational structure to ensure the club's longevity and adaptability. Feedback tools like Google Forms were utilized to understand member needs and improve initiatives. SFSF has successfully cultivated a vibrant, student-driven community advocating for sustainable change on campus and beyond through its efforts. This thesis reflects on the challenges faced, the strategies employed, and the outcomes achieved in establishing a lasting framework for SFSF's impact. SFSF can carry out long-term effects on campus with the outstanding leadership team elected for the 2025-2026 school year.
