Abstract
This thesis is a combination of six case studies completed during the 2023-2024 academic school year. The studies were written under the direction and supervision of Dr. Victoria Dickinson during the Honors Accountancy 420 course and in accordance with the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and the Patterson School of Accountancy. Each case study explored different aspects of the accounting profession, while focusing in on analyzing economic trends. Case one discussed the unawareness of Chinese entities joining the United States stock market using a reverse merger process. This case showed the difficulties in enacting change in the U.S. government and the importance of educating citizens. The second case studied the profitability of the defense industry while the United States government sent defense equipment to Ukraine. This case explored all of the aspects of assisting countries in relation to funding and economic policies. The third case analyzes the environmental, social and governance impacts on the public accounting profession. The fifth case discusses the political viewpoints of authors’ Thomas Sowell and Ben Carson. The fourth case, as well as, the sixth case reflects work on a group project about economic development in Mississippi. The economic development of choice was titled, “Bring Wawa to the ‘Sip.” This economic development project analyzed the effects of bringing a well-known and elevated gas station to a city in Mississippi. The combination of each case studies reflects the knowledge acquired during this thesis course.
