Abstract
This thesis is composed of various case studies that were completed throughout the course of the Honors Accounting 420 class. Over the course of the school year, these cases covered diverse topics related to accounting and finance. Each case has a different format which requires different solutions. Some cases were focused on the analysis of a 10-K, while other cases were focused on the effects new laws and regulations can have on the way a company conducts business.
Most of the cases were completed in groups. This helped emphasize the importance of teamwork and collaboration. The groups varied case by case except for our final case. There were many benefits from working in a group. For example, the solutions within the cases where much more creative because of the various perspectives that came up during the process. Different ideas and approaches to problems enabled groups to consider differently the objectives of the case.
By completing these case studies, a valuable insight into the accounting world and its relevant problems was gained and this helped me further develop an understanding of accounting. By honing skills such as research and data analysis, I became more proficient and confident in my abilities to work through unfamiliar problems. The technical skills combined with the collaboration and teamwork skills create an environment that allows aspiring accountants to nurture skills that will be relevant to them in the workplace. Overall, these cases and the class have prepared me to take my skills into the workforce.
