The Kudzu Kings formed in Oxford, Mississippi in 1994, playing what they termed “Funktry” music: a unique hybrid of syncopated country, bluegrass, and improvisational rock. They toured extensively through North America from 1994-2003, opening for and sharing the stage with musicians including Widespread Panic, Bob Weir, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Junior Brown, and Aquarium Rescue Unit.

On October 4, 2019, they played a show in Oxford at The Lyric Theater to commemorate their 25th anniversary.
