Description
Sixty-minute program "Special Report" hosted by Brit Hume. Program starts with a news update from FOX News anchor Laurie Dhue on following topics: Bridgestone-Firestone and Ford Explorer accidents; possible new route to peace in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine; the movie "Lord of the Rings" tops the nominations at the Oscars. Dhue provides another news update in the middle of the program and discusses an unfolding hostage crisis at Fairfield University in Connecticut and the detaining of Sheik Omar Saeed in connection with the kidnapping of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. Topics discussed by Hume include: the possibility of military action in Iraq; President George Bush's State of the Union speech on the Axis of Evil; Democratic criticism of Axis of Evil speech; homeland security and FEMA's preparations for possible terror attacks on the US; missile strikes in Afghanistan carried out by the CIA; testimony of Kenneth Lay of Enron at Senate hearing; possible connections between Enron political donations and the Bush White House; campaign finance reform and ban on soft money; linking of war on terrorism with the war on drugs; and ecoterrorism and violent protests of Earth Liberation Front discussed by House committee.
