Description

One hundred and twenty-minute of news coverage beginning with Minority Whip Trent Lott and Majority Whip Tom Foley on CNN's "Crossfire" hosted by Robert Novak and Tom Braden. Topics discussed include: opening day for the 100th Congress, possible increase in congressional, judicial, and executive salaries, the federal budget, trade agreements, beginning of Iran-Contra investigation and hearings, increase in defense spending along with cuts in student aid, medicaid, and legal services to the poor, arms control and SALT II decisions breached by US. Followed by "CBS Evening News" hosted by Dan Rather. Minority Whip Trent Lott appears and comments on an April Fool's Day story about a possible 8 day week with 6 days on and 2 days off being considered by Congress.
