Abstract

Donna Ladd, editor-in-chief of the Jackson Free Press, talks about the challenges of "alternative newspapers" competing with wealthier, big-city dailies. Ladd, a native of Philadelphia, Miss., returned to the state in 2001 to help found the Free Press as a weekly, independent rival to Mississippi's largest daily, the Clarion-Ledger. She is joined on the program by Joe Atkins, a long-time professor of journalism at Ole Miss, who conducts the conversation. Atkins once wrote the Clarion-Ledger.
