Harry Owens Civil War Archival Collection

The Center for Civil War Research funds the purchase of archival materials related to the Civil War era in Mississippi and the surrounding region. These materials are available to students, to the public, and to researchers from around the world as part of the permanent collection in the Department of Archives and Special Collections.

Acquisitions are made possible though the Harry Owens Civil War Library Endowment, which was funded though the generous donations of former students of beloved University of Mississippi Civil War historian Harry Owens. The funds from this endowment double our library's capacity to buy and preserve documents, helping us expand the Civil War research collection in the university archives.
