The Piney Woods Country Life School (or Piney Woods School), located in Rankin County, Miss., was founded in 1909 by Dr. Laurence C. Jones to provide much-needed educational opportunities to the local African-American population. From its inception, the school's curriculum has emphasized vocational and occupational training as well as traditional academics. Piney Woods School remains in operation and admits students from across the United States and internationally.
