There's a dear old gray-haired lady, with tear dimmed eyes, In her cottage home she's waiting, neath the southern skies; Often by the gate she's standing, when summer moonlight shines, And thinks of one who loved and left her mid the Georgia pines; She cant believe him faithless, tho' years have come and gone, For her love is a secret and her grief her own; She recalls the sad, sweet parting On that morning, long ago, When he said, Goodby, my darling! And she answered, sweet and low:
