Lyrics

Lyrics:
First verse
While the autumn leaves were falling and the stream flowed gently by, I hastened forth to met my darling Nell By a rustic stile I met her, and I heard her feeble sigh, She knew that I had come to say farewell. When you come back you'll find me waiting here for you, she said. My love for you it never will grow cold, As if to hide the falling tears, she turned aside her head, Then gazed upon the leaves of brown and gold.
Chorus
As the leaves around her fell, I kissed my darling Nell, Then on my knees love's story sweet I told. As I turned to go away, I thought I heard her say. I'll be waiting where the leaves are brown and gold.
Second verse
Twelve weary months had drifted by, when the back to Nell I came And found her at the old time meeting place. I also found her faithful, for her love was just the same. As when I left her with a tear stained face. I felt as though my heart would burst with joy that very day, For she had promised then to be my wife; It seemed as though the falling leaves would whisper soft and say I hope that you'll be happy all through life.
(Chorus)
