Abstract

Dr. Elias Zerhouni, left, director of the National Institutes of Health, tours the National Center for Natural Products Research at the University of Mississippi with U.S. Rep. Roger Wicker and center director Larry Walker. Earlier in the day, Zerhouni announced a major shift in NIH priorities to focus on finding new treatments for chronic illnesses. The announcement, at the UM Medical Center in Jackson, was part of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering's annual meeting. The NIH funds more than $3.5 million in research at the university's Oxford campus.
