Abstract
British physicians are reaching way back into medical history for the latest treatment for patients with infected wounds: maggots. The British National Health Service has authorized doctors to prescribe maggot treatment - a centuries-old practice that fell out of favor after the discovery of antibiotics - as a way to combat antibiotic resistance and spiraling medial costs. Researchers have confirmed that sterile maggots, which eat dead, infected tissue, can help wounds heal faster than conventional medicine.
