Abstract

The Justice Department has reopened an investigation into the 1955 murder of Emmett Till, a 14-year old black youth who supposedly was killed for whistling at a white woman. The case helped fuel the civil rights movement. This marks the 22nd killing from the civil rights era that has been re-examined by authorities in recent years.
