Abstract

Rose Carey (seated), shows her artwork to Arnold Aprill, visiting instructor of art (right), and rising UM senior Diana Riggs. Carey is among 34 students from the Batesville and Rome communities who are visiting the Oxford campus through Saturday for Youth Weekend, an academic enrichment program sponsored by the university's William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation. In addition to art lessons, UM faculty and staff and local volunteers are helping youths design web sites, work on photographic projects, research and conduct oral histories, and prepare for the ACT college preparatory exam. "The entire campus was involved in supporting the project," said Susan Glisson, director of the Winter Institute.
