Abstract

The news that discount retailer Kmart Holding Corp. is combining with Sears, Roebuck & Co. in an $11-billion deal to create the nation's third largest retailer thundered through Wall Street today. But University of Mississippi marketing professor Chuck Ingene believes the new company, Sears Holdings Corp., won't survive because Kmart and Sears "have little in common."
