Abstract

OXFORD, Miss. - University of Mississippi entomologist James Anderson likes to quote famed biologist E.O. Wilson on the topic of fire ants. Wilson once said that fire ants are the "Vietnam of entomology." He was referring specifically to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's 20-year, $200 million failed campaign to eradicate the South American invaders through the use of insecticides.
