Abstract

OXFORD, Miss. -- Did you know that the word "daisy" dates back to an Old English word meaning "day's eye" or that the word "God" can be traced to "receiver of sacrifices?" These and other interesting word origins are to be discussed Oct. 2 at the University of Mississippi, when renowned language scholar Anatoly Liberman delivers the 46th annual Christopher Longest Lecture.
