Abstract

UNIVERSITY, Miss. -- When Antonio Carlos Jobim wrote The Girl from Ipanema in 1966, little did he know his original Portuguese tune would be hummed wistfully throughout the world. The classic harbinger of sultry weather and breezy, lazy days begins, "Tall and tan and young and lovely/The girl from Ipanema goes walking/And when she passes, each one she passes goes ‘a-a-ah!'"
