Abstract

UNIVERSITY, Miss. -- Winter brings not only dreary days and cold temps but also a good chance you'll be among the millions of Americans catching the flu, or influenza, virus. Although flu shares a lot of symptoms with the common cold, it can be deadly for the very young, those with chronic illnesses and the elderly. The virus also can make healthy people miserable and can last for one to two weeks, says Barbara Collier, a nurse practitioner and director of The University of Mississippi Student Health Services.
