Abstract

Editor's note: This story first appeared in May. The deadline for proposals was recently extended to January 4, 2002. UNIVERSITY, Miss. -- The University of Mississippi's (UM) Civil Rights Commemoration Initiative -- a group of UM students, former students, faculty and staff -- has begun a national search for an artist to create a the state's first permanent civil rights memorial. It will be located at the center of the UM-Oxford campus. Proposals for artwork will be accepted until January 4, 2002.
