The University of Mississippi School of Law hosted an academic panel to commemorate Martin Luther King Day. Panelists were Michele Alexandre, associate professor of law; Charles Eagles, professor of history; and Charles Ross, director of African-American studies and associate professor of history. Jack Nowlin, associate professor of law, moderated. Alexandre spoke of King's poor people's movement and the role of economic issues for the future of the civil rights movement. Eagles talked about competing historical interpretations of the civil rights movement. Ross discussed the impact of Medgar Evers on the civil rights movement nationally and in Mississippi.
