A review of ten years of participation by Thea Bowman at the Faulkner and Yoknapatawpha Conferences held annually at the University of Mississippi.
Sister Thea Bowman was the granddaughter of a slave. She grew up in Canton, Mississippi, converted to Catholicism at the age of 12, and eventually joined the Franciscan order of Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. From 1980-1989 she participated annually in the Faulkner and Yoknapatawpha Conference. She was well-known as a leader in the growing celebration of the black heritage within the Catholic Church
