Abstract
This thesis navigates African American people's relationship regarding the land through three themes. The first is the colonization of land during the initial introduction of Europeans and Africans to North America, particularly the U.S. South; the second is the colonization of Black people who had an unseen connection to the land, denied the right to explore that bond freely with the environment; and finally, the reclamation of that relationship by overcoming centuries of oppression through the repossession of land lineage for future generations.
