Abstract
This portfolio presents a comprehensive overview of my contributions and involvement in the Farm-to-Farmacy (FTF) program model. Farm-to-Farmacy is an extension of the FoodRx program which aims to address food insecurity in rural parts of North Mississippi. This program was inspired by the 2019 FoodRx program in the Mississippi Delta that assisted in delivering fresh produce to the doorsteps of the elderly and homebound. Farm-to-Farmacy incorporates a unique approach by soliciting the support of local farmers which assists in sustainability for a program of this stature but also supports community engagement and involvement. The Farm-to-Farmacy program relies on local farmers to assist in closing the gap as it pertains to food insecurity throughout rural Mississippi. This portfolio outlines the methodologies used to evaluate and further develop and improve the overall program. This portfolio also outlines my overall involvement including data collection, stakeholder engagement, and program evaluation. Key activities that actively assisted with were redesigning surveys for better feedback, conducting and analyzing interviews with patients and farmers that were involved in the program, transcribing and coding and strategizing on sustainability methods. Through strong evaluation, this program increased community engagement and partnership, bridged the gap in accessibility of fresh produce and showcased the importance of innovative approaches to decrease food insecurity throughout rural parts of North Mississippi. This unique program demonstrates the importance of access for these vulnerable individuals and communities. Through my participation in this program evaluation, I have gained valuable insight into the importance around community program initiatives and have learned how crucial and effect programs such as the Farm-to-Farmacy program can be on the livelihood of those in our communities. It is my hope that I can take what I have learned from an evaluation standpoint and develop a program that will assist my community in the future.
