Abstract
This project was undertaken in order to provide cultural resource clearance for fifteen acres of land for the proposed construction of the Tennessee Valley Authority's Customer Service Center in the City of Tupelo, Lee County, Mississippi. The fifteen acres were divided into sections, and after each section was granted cultural resource clearance, construction was allowed to begin while other sections were being investigated. Four early historic midden pits were discovered during the investigations. The cultural materials recovered were analyzed and described. The modern trash and historic and early historic cultural materials recovered revealed that the project area had been in use since the early 1700's to the present.
