Abstract
This thesis defines the content of the imagery in my thesis exhibit. My content stems from a troubled relationship with the hierarchical structure of consumer society. | am reacting against the sexism and racism in our society, especially found in the subtle messages broadcast through the mass media. The title “Models” has a double meaning - both in its reference to the images in the show as “models”, as artificial structures from which to gain ideas about the real world; and also as a reference to “models”, as women exhibiting the latest fashion. I want to make the viewers aware of the voyeurism inherent in looking at the art work in the gallery, and at the television in their home. I hope that the viewer will come away from my show enlightened to the manipulations of the mass media.
