Abstract

This paper presents an original analysis of the Concerto in G by Maurice Ravel in five areas: form, harmony, melody, rhythm and orchestration. In addition, the paper gives a summary of neo-Riemannian theoretical principles and an application of these theories with some expansion to the concerto. Framed by a brief introduction and conclusion, the body of the paper is divided in five chapters: biography of the composer, review of the composer’s musical style, review of neo- Riemannian theory, analysis of the concerto, and application of neo-Riemannian theory to the concerto.
