Abstract
Remembering Holly Springs is a series of photographs that explore the efforts of community education programs that engage with the remembrance of enslaved peoples and future of land stewardship in Holly Springs, Mississippi. In our current moment, traditional institutions like museums and universities have been the target of political censorship and historical revisionism, causing a sense of urgency around the future of remembrance practices and protecting the truth about the dependence on slave labor in building the nation and undergirding its economic success. The aim of this thesis is to shed light on alternative forms of knowledge creation through place-based learning and provide a snapshot of a few of the folks that make it possible.
