Description
Daffodils bloom near the farmhouse.
The daffodils that surrounded the farmhouse are the same variety native to England’s Lake District, where William Wordsworth lived when he wrote the poem “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud,” which closes with these words: “And then my heart with pleasure fills, / And dances with the daffodils.” These daffodils are also known as lent lilies because they often bloom between Ash Wednesday and Easter.
I was surprised and pleased to come upon them. They added color to the landscape and made me think of people. Who planted them? How long ago? Were they here when Faulkner walked the farm? Probably so.
