Description
Post oak tree displaying autumn foliage.
“It was a land of old, deep, thin mud, which was not just soil but a kind of history. It was a place of vast quiet, dark woods, where the air was heavy with the smell of pine and rain, and the only sounds were the distant call of a crow or the slow, thick, black, secret, and indifferent water of the river.” Intruder in the Dust
Greenfield Farm’s spectacular privacy influenced Faulkner’s Intruder in the Dust. I experienced that isolation when I walked the woods. It aroused my senses and stirred by imagination. I wondered how that quiet will affect the writers who come here to seek solitude when Greenfield Farm Writers Residency opens.
