Abstract
Resistance takes cultural forms key to any movement, and the case of Palestinian
resistance is no different. In contemporary times, even the content of social media accounts expresses a culture of resistance. To consider this phenomenon, I look at the Palestine Music Expo (PMX), which occurred in 2017, 2018, and 2019 in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank. I argue that PMX and those it brought together, like writer and activist Rami Younis, singer/songwriter Bashar Murad, and musician and composer Brian Eno, illustrate the various shapes cultural resistance adopts to reach a widening audience. The way that participants in a resistance movement choose to represent themselves and their stories is just as vital as their
political ideology. After all, those choices determine the audience that will engage with their message.
