Abstract
Number theorists like to count things in arithmetic progressions. A classical problem of this type is to find the average value of the divisor function in an arithmetic progression. In this talk, I will discuss this problem and the limit of current knowledge. Then I will explain how we can go beyond this limit in a special situation.
