Abstract
Roughly speaking, Ramsey's theorem states that if you color all infinite subsequences of the natural numbers (ℕ) with finitely many colors, you can pass to some subsequence of ℕ so that all subsequences of have the same color. We will give an overview of the applications of this theorem to the theory of classifications of Banach spaces and concentrate on a recent result by E. Odell and the speaker, which led to the solutions of several problems in the theory of Banach spaces.
