Interview conducted by author Jere Nash with Mississippi Republican Party leader Wirt Yerger in the process of writing Mississippi Politics: The Struggle for Power, 1976-2006. Topics covered include Yerger's background and involvement in the Young Republicans; patronage following Dwight Eisenhower's election; Yerger's election as party chair at the 1956 state convention; party challenge at the 1956 Republican National Convention; effect of Little Rock school integration on the party; attempt to outlaw the Republican Party; and Rubel Phillips.
