Description
Interview conducted by author Jere Nash with John Ed Ainsworth in the process of writing Mississippi Politics: The Struggle for Power, 1976-2006. Ainsworth served as State Land Commissioner and ran for lieutenant governor in 1979. Topics covered include Ainsworth's background and his awareness of the 1962 riot at the University of Mississippi; Washington County supervisor election in 1963 electing Republican Roy Fulton; David Bowen; James O. Eastland; John Stennis; Ainsworth's campaign for State Land Commissioner; school integration in Washington County; Ainsworth's unsuccessful campaigns for Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State; Dick Molpus; William Winter; Buddie Newman; revising laws on 16th section land in Land Reform Act of 1978; and Evelyn Gandy.
