Abstract
In this interview, William Hunter Bigham discusses his experience coming out as gay in Mississippi after being married to a woman, having three children, and “doing everything the right way.” Born and raised in Mississippi, Bigham discusses his Baptist upbringing and involvement throughout his early adult life as well as the toll those then-held religious beliefs took on his mental health throughout his coming-out journey. Bigham then discusses the devastating loss of his mother to a car accident, which he credits as the catalyst that brought his family back together after his coming out. Bigham discusses what it’s like being a gay dad who travels for work while also being married to a massive pornagraphic film star within the gay community. Throughout the interview, Bigham acknowledges the privilege he has had as a white male in Mississippi, but he makes clear that members of the LGBTQ+ community can not only survive in Mississippi, but they can thrive.
